With gay rights cases being made to the Supreme Court, I thought a wonderful DOMA-themed blog seemed more than fitting. I would like to propose, after the overturn of DOMA, the Defense Of Stupidity Act...
"Wait a darn tootin minute, how can you be so sure that DOMA will be overturned?"
Well, there's this little, insignificant thing in this country that we like to call the Constitution. I say this because if this so called "important document" were really so important, our citizens wouldn't have had to fight for their rights from the date it was signed. The fact that law makers can even present bills that undermine the foundations of this nation is and always will be beyond my comprehension.
Getting back to this DOMA thingy, so the first sentence of the first amendment of the Constitution states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
Since the basis of the anti-gay marriage law is that of religion, it will not hold up in the Supreme Court. Despite what conservatives believe, this nation is not now nor has it ever been a "Christian nation." In fact, our founding fathers are quoted saying just the opposite. The right wing cannot talk about being the "party of the Constitution" while endorsing laws that undermine the basic foundations of freedom. It would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.
Since the Constitution is the last thing to be considered when making laws, I have come up with a solution I like to call, the Defense Of Stupidity Act. This bill will prevent law makers from taking away human rights, so that advocate groups don't have to spend decades fighting to reinstated them. This bill will act as a pre-Constitution Constitution.
Sound confusing? It really is simple. Basically, new laws can violate the Constitution, but they cannot violate other laws. DOSA will be the human rights law to prevent other laws from violating human rights. Making sense now? Good.
"Wait, are you defending stupidity?"
No, politilovers. Since the Constitution is clearly not enough, we are defending our human right to protect our human rights by any stupid means necessary. Join us.
